Hi, I’m Tamara

Hi, I’m Tamara. Most people call me Teej.

I live in Waterloo, Ontario with my two kids and our Weimaraner, Jari. Life moves fast here and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When I’m not working, I’m chasing the outdoors. Skiing and snowboarding in the winter, waterskiing in the summer, hockey year-round, golf when I can squeeze it in. If there’s a way to be outside, I’m looking for it.

The thing I didn’t see coming this year was coaching. I took on a girls competitive hockey team and I am completely hooked. This past season was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. We were the team no one expected much from. We knew that. And we built something together anyway. The growth those girls showed, the way they came together as a team, it genuinely moved me. I care about winning, but what got me wasn’t the scoreboard. It was watching kids figure out what they’re capable of.

I plan to write more about the coaching journey here. The wins, the hard moments, what I’m learning as a first-year coach. It’s a different kind of leadership and it’s teaching me things.

On the work side, I’m the CMO of Woo at Automattic. If you haven’t heard of Woo, no sweat, but you’ve probably heard of WordPress. It powers 42% of the internet. WooCommerce runs on top of that. The part that matters most to me is that it’s open source. Merchants own their data. They own their store. Woo is built with the community, for the community. That’s the reason I care so much about this work. I’ve spent my career in marketing, GTM, and commerce, and right now I’m in the middle of one of the most interesting chapters yet. AI has changed how we work in ways I didn’t think were possible. We’re building agentic-first teams, rethinking how we operate, and finding productivity I didn’t know was there. I’ll be sharing what I’m learning here because it feels too useful to keep to myself.

I also love a good conversation, on stage, on a podcast, in a room full of people. As the interviewer or the interviewee, I’m in. If you have a topic that overlaps with mine (coaching, marketing, commerce, AI, building teams that actually move), let’s talk. I’m always up for it.

This blog is somewhere I can think out loud. Thanks for being here.
